Most of the effort was keeping the dogs in line; well, that and the significantly hilly XC course. Sage and I wore shiny garlands. Ash had a garland, DD had elf hat. Dogs went crazy, what with all the other dogs and people, but behaved pretty well, if that makes any sense. It doesn't, does it? Sage liked to sprint up the big hills, which made it a great workout for me. She has powerful hind legs. Both dogs ran it strong to the end - race day magic and all, because Ash has never done such a long run, and he usually shows a lack of cardio fitness.
