I don't know what, other than age, has made me slower. I doubt that my tempo has been much faster, so for some reason my stride length isn't what it used to be. Or maybe I'm getting lazier. All that said, it felt like a good strong effort. I missed several of the mile markers, or they weren't there, so that didn't help with pacing. Around miles 2-4 we settled into a position where I was a bit behind four runners of various ages. They broke on the Calvert hill, and I passed them for good. Stayed reasonably strong to the very end. It sure seemed like a long time on the 17th Street northward leg before I could see the Capitol. Disappointed my average pace was over 8:00. Pleasantly surprised to get 1AG and the RRCA medal at awards.
