I had no expectations for this race due to my foot not being 100%. We warmed up for 6.5 miles and that felt okay so I decided to run the race. I lined up in the middle so I wouldn't try to go out too fast. We start on a downhill so easy to start fast. I had to hold back more than usual since the combination of running fast and pavement would not be good for the foot. I could see Phil and Brian ahead of me not too far so tried to keep them close. After the first mile I passed Brian and then shortly after Phil. This course passes the start line 3 times so we run 3.5 loops so we have to go up a hill 3 times. Each time I felt strong on the hill. Finished in 19:55. It would have been nice to run 15 sec/mi faster, but this is where I am right now. Each mile split was 6:16, 6:15, and 6:14 so was good to see I wasn't slowing. If I can run this same pace for next weeks 8K I won't be too embarrassed.
