Notes

Great long run. Built into it and had a really solid second half. Running through Fermi Lab is always an adventure though because the landscape is so surreal. Most of the scientific stuff is 40ft underground. So the land itself is the largest section of natural prairie left in Illinois. The architecture of the few buildings is extremely bizarre. There will be a windowless blue building with orange spots built into the side of a hill with garage door going right into the same hill. Then a quarter mile later you'll run past another small building with a 15ft tall tank of liquid nitrogen sitting out front. Then you'll enter an empty section or road lined only by powerlines in the shape of the "pi" symbol. My imagination runs wild while I'm in Fermi too. Sometimes the Jurassic Park music will get into my head and I start worrying that I'll accidentally wander into the T-Rex pen. I also worry that an unmarked van will pull up right next to me and I'll be tied up by a band of Russian scientists, taken away and never heard from again because I've "already seen too much." If you don't know much about Fermi you should join me for a run one of these days. As long as its not too windy of a day, it's a great place to run. And they have Buffaloe.
