Notes
Did a long run in Lake Placid where I am for the weekend on break from iqrm workshop in Syracuse.
I started at my hotel on Main street and looped Mirror Lake before heading out Route 86 to Route 73 East. I past the Olympic Jumping Complex and proceeded to got up and down lots and lots of rolling hills. In fact after Mirror Lake, nothing was flat for long. I was either going up (including one hill that was 1.5 miles uphill). I made it out to the Olympic Winter Sports Complex which said it was 6 miles out of Lake Placid. Then after looking around, I turned around and headed back. The way back went quick. It felt more downhill than heading out.
I was fine until about mile 16 when i took in a GU. I think I was getting tired as I reentered the Village of LP because the heat was spiking and there was little shade. I took a 30 second break about 16.5 and then continued running going around Mirror Lake Dr counter-clockwise, past the hotel, down Main street, to the Olympic Center Rink. Then I turned around and just got in the last mile. The last two miles were torturous (9'34" and 9'10" pace). I was tired despite everything feeling fine - leg turnover was steady. I think it was more mental than anything - and the heat did not help matters.
Hydration started to become an issue towards the end. I should have been been drinking more early and more often.
It was a great run. Very picturesque scenery (I love the Adirondack Mountains in the backdrop). This was a solid training run and good time on my legs.
Random Note: LP sits at an altitude of 1850 feet
