Well… I did my first real track workout in a couple years (actually on a track) … run club met at Princeton HS to commence a workout. We had a record this morning which was really exciting… we had 5 people show up and had the potential to hit 7. Everyone was in good humor to start off, I don’t know if everyone knew what was going to happen when they got there. Since I was the only one who has “volunteered” to do such a workout since high school I took the reins and proposed the workout of 4 – 800’s and 3 minutes worth of recovery following the last person coming in. Ethan and I ran together for the first one, Ethan had his regular kick in the end and took me out… 2.31. needless to say I was surprised by the 2.31 but I was kind of expecting it since Ethan was there to push me. The second one started with a little weaker legs… Ethan stayed with me for most of it but by 300 meters left to go I started picking it up and he stayed back… I took him out by ~5 seconds on the second one and hit 2.35. By the 3rd one I was really starting to feel it, so was Ethan, he stayed with me for the first lap but I started gaining ground on him for the second lap. I held on for a 2.37 for this one, it was nice to have Ethan behind me to keep me honest. My final one had some of the other guys going out quicker trying to at least have the lead for a little bit. I weaved through their games and poured on the gas (whatever was left). I went through the first lap at 1.19 and was afraid it was going to be my slowest half. I started pushing even harder for the last 200 and clicked in a 2.34. Don, Sam and Andy ran just above 3 minutes per interval. Don was happy with the workout, he must have been having some hesitations to it prior to coming but enjoyed it after it was done! Sam and Andy are a little younger than us so they were use to it.

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised, I was thinking I would be somewhere in the 2.40’s so I am certainly not complaining. I really need to get a long run in soon… I think I am going to target one this weekend.
