Also agreed. I think Boston is a fine race to target, but plan to compete for place, not time.
lol...stop it, no one here is running Boston for place and not time.
Re: Cherry Blossom, absolutely disgraceful that a race of that size should misplace a cone. That is some basic local fun run crap right there. Kudos on them for paying out for the records being broken though.
5k: 17:52 (2014); 10k 36:59 (2014); 15k: 56:29 (2018); Half: 1:19:27* (2018); Full: 2:54:22 (2018)

Disagree. Boston apparently gives t-shirts to the top 20 in each age group, and that's one of my goals for the next time I run it.
Slingrunner - I didn't have a goal time for the 5K, since I didn't know how I was going to bounce back from Cherry Blossom. Just go out and run my best race.
Everyone's gotta running blog; I'm the only one with a POOL-RUNNING blog.
And...if you want a running Instagram where all the pictures are of cats, I've got you covered.
Heading up to Boston shortly from Philly, so this will probably be my last checkin. Hope we get great weather tomorrow, and everybody meets their goals.
I think the forecast is reasonable, but I don't run well in heat so I'm concerned. I popped my knee doing strides on my treadmill 2 weeks ago, and it still hurts, but running hard doesn't seem to make it worse, so I'm hoping it becomes a nonissue. Otherwise I'm feeling healthy. Assuming the forecast holds, I'm wearing my vaporfly of course, and no shirt, but I'm now considering whether I should wear my shortest lightest shorts. The problem is they don't have pockets. I have a plan to meet my support 3 times along the course at miles 5,11,17(by car). I put some research into it, and I hope it works out. If I get sub 3, this will likely be my last marathon at least for a while... if not...it will be a tough decision. In my head it's a close close whether I'll make it... I'd say 40% if dew point stays low 50s.
Anyone tracking JT?
Mmmm Bop
Not sure how many timing mats are on the course, I only see one 10k split - 43:09 at 6:57 pace.
5k - 17:53 (4/19) 10k - 37:53 (11/18) Half - 1:23:18 (4/19) Full - 2:50:43 (4/19)
RIP Milkman
He’s through 31K at 6:40 pace. Not sure about that 10K split being right.
5K: 16:37 (11/20) | 10K: 34:49 (10/19) | HM: 1:14:57 (5/22) | FM: 2:36:31 (12/19)
JT
10k - 43:09 (6:57 pace)
31.1k - 2:08:37 (6:40 pace)
This means he ran 10k-31.1k at just about 6:30 pace. If the time is gun time and not chip time perhaps he's run 6:30 pace the whole way and could be on track for 2:50.
Good luck to you all tomorrow.

Madison - that makes sense, didn’t consider the gun time issue
JT home at 2:53:10. Not sure if that is net or gun time. Either way, great race off surgery!
Looks like we might miss the rain for Boston, which actually isn’t a good thing as it’ll be warm in the 60s. Still, I’d take this over low 40s, rain, and headwind any day of the week. My only concern is that I haven’t really trained my stomach to take in liquids, which can be an issue given how sensitive I am to stomach cramps. I’ll be sure to be pouring as much water on me as I’m taking in though. My other concern is lack of electrolytes because I’m only going to be taking gels and water, but I’m honestly not sure there is a lot of science backing how much electrolytes are actually needed unless you’re chugging a ton of water while sweating.
I keep telling myself DON’T GO OUT TOO FAST, DON’T GO OUT TOO FAST. Hopefully that will stay in my brain tomorrow.
That’s what I’m seeing. Might still be pretty wet come the walk to the bus and early in athletes village. Still concerned about the some lightning activity early on and then we will have a bit of humidity to deal with. Still compared to earlier this week not bad at all.
Congrats JT!!!
Those splits look like a beautifully paced race. And I'm going to guess, based on the size of the race, that he ran much of it solo. Well done!
