Ottawa Marathon Report - A family affair! (Read 906 times)

Congrats on a great run and great report! Under four hours is a most noteworthy accomplishment for a first marathon. Good post-mortem on the race. Yeah, probably a bit more you needed for breakfast. Given your time on your first marathon, the conditions, etc., 3:45 is well-within reach. You'll pass that soon enough. Good run!

Great job and thanks for the report!!!

Congratulations! Nice time - and thanks for the detailed race report. I think an oversized pre-race brekkie got me stitched recently too. Sounded great to have your family sharing the experience with you! Smile

Congratulations! All of us at RA were on the edge of our seats waiting for your marathon report! That's a fantastic time. You should feel really proud about accomplishing a sub-4 time at your first marathon! The first marathon is the one that you will never forget and is most special.

next race SHONAN MARATHON nov 3rd, 2012, OSAKA MARATHON nov 25th, i am aiming for nyc!

            6. I just plain did it. - sorry WE did it! Dave
That, my friend, is the coolest part! I really hope my son takes up running--I'd love to run a race with him someday (though I have a feeling that he will be a fast son-of-a-gun eventually). That is such a great way to spend your weekend--I'll bet you were all celebrating that evening! Smile k

            Go Pre!

Post mortem has not yet set in - probably soon. My thighs are still sore and walking down stairs is still an issue! Going shopping now so walking around will help, hopefully. Right knee is a bit sore on the outer side, a new pain for me. It started at about 28K. I will swim in the mornings this week and maybe run on the weekend but we'll see how I feel. I am already anxious to get out there! I drove past a regular running route on the way home from work and felt the urge to go run! Doing the calculations to run a BQ is disheartening me but I have set the goal...BQ by 45! This gives me 5 more years Smile A more attainable goal than next year!

Yes, we had a great night...it was so nice to let loose. Everyone had a blast including my parents who despite being 73 & 74 still fit in at all of our parties. My dad can talk anyones ear off!
That's awesome, Dave! I loved the report and am always interested to read of you and your family's experiences running together as I try to encourage my kids to get involved in running.

When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done?

Thanks Bonk....If you can get them into one race, a 1 mile or 2k to start, they will be hooked...just like us! I am still in awe of my daughter going straight from the half marathon to escort her little brother in the 2k and run a 10:20 together. This thought has been extending the marathon buzz for me! I will have some pics ready soon Smile Dave
Congratulations Dave! Great time. I was there for the same race and it was my first as well. My chip time was 4:24:22. I followed the training program from the book "The Non-Runner's Marathon Trainer" (http://www.amazon.com/Non-Runners-Marathon-Trainer-David-Whitsett/dp/1570281823). My wife and her sister ran the half marathon as well with a time of 2:11:04. The pain you mentioned on the outside of the knee may be ITB syndrome. I came down with this after one of my long runs and went to a physiotherapist who helped out quite a bit. Didn't you find it somewhat depressing when the half marathoners merged with us after the half way mark. Prior to this, I was enjoying our little group of runners all going around the same pace when suddenly we were overtaken by those running the half who seemed to be flying. I actually enjoyed the weather. It was not too hot and the rain seemed to cool things off nicely. Kevin
I run because it makes me stronger.

                      Go Pre!

Well done Kev! It feels good to join the marathon club ya? I was a bit overwhelmed when the fast half marathoners blew by us the first time they joined us but fortunately that didnt last too long. When we met up with them again near 39K (?) it was just plain nice to have more joyous race finishers, and the fact I was running by them made me feel strong. The rain was nice for the most part, good temperatures too, but it got to me at one point when the sweat and rain was enough to make my shirt stick to me. Looking back I would definately take that over 80 degrees of direct sunshine! cheers

Hi Dave, Congrats! Great race, great report. I hope to run my first full marathon in october, but I don't think I will be able to copy your sub 4-hours time. I'm impressed! bas
