Hi All - been busy with the holidays and family.  Thanks to everyone who extended those kind words about my race win.

Rune - I think you're on the right track to increase running volume gradually.

Steve - Conscious decision to skip the hill repeats, or just didn't happen?  I find it occasionally disconcerting to read about other people dealing with summer conditions right now - it takes my brain a moment to reset and remind myself this is a global group.

Mark - Nice week of running there.

Watson - Nice job on the ParkRun time, especially in the warm weather.

James - Hope the knee keeps improving.

Mick - Nice year in review.  Our total times exercising are not far off, but you're notably faster than I am.  Good luck in your marathon prep.

36.9 miles / 59.3 km / 6:18:16 for me last week, including a new ParkRun best, which I credit to finally being able to run the course in less than 64º (18C) while no longer recovering from the marathon.  It was a good rust-breaker for me as I haven't run a hard 5k in quite some time and I have a road 5k coming up on January 1.

For those about to Thread Lord, we salute you.

I started up the 2024 thread while it was on my mind so it would be there when the new year starts.  Feel free to post your 2024 races (and please start each race listing with MM/DD so it's easier for me to copy/past) but otherwise keep posting everything else here for now.

Neither - I didn't have them in my plan this week, just noting it was the first time in a month I wasn't heading up the hills on a Saturday which was a nice break.  I have a Sunday long run up there this week though.  I've told my coach I'm right on board with becoming a better strength runner so I have some tough weeks ahead!  Next week is my first down week in 6 though and it's a good sign that I'm not hanging out for it

Merry Belated Christmas to those who celebrated. My days are so mixed up. Doesn't help that due to the holiday, our usual recycling & trash pick up days also go moved.

Hashiritai The spies over here told me you are running Boston this year.  How's the training going?  A cross-thread meet-up would be cool if you're up to it.  16 weeks to go hope your training is going well if you've started!

Fishy - Haha, yeah sure am! Just taking a wee break after a base-building block before starting up again. Boston will be my third marathon, and by far the biggest, so really looking forward to it. Not too fussed about a time but will be training to improve my current PB of 3:17. Definitely be cool to meet up (assuming cross-thread meet-ups are permissible!)

            50+ age-group PBs:  Half Perish 1:24:24 (June '23 Road Race) - 10km 37:52 (2022 Local Road Champs) - Track 5km 18:49 (Aug '22) - Perish Run 3:17:42

            2024 Goals: Boston Perish Run Sub 3:15 - Road/Track 10km Sub 37:30 - 5km Sub 18:20

LOL!! Great news.  It is a fun race and an experience.  When I arrived at athletes village for my first Boston I took some pictures and described it as "Runnerpalooza" and nirvana for runnergeeks

I will have to confer with Fredford on the permissibility of cross-thread meetups.  As the newly assigned thread dictators I think that we get to set the rules now Maybe they become not only permissible but mandatory!!

Are jerks and Waltons able to meet in real life at races? Or us it like oil and water?

Given that Fishy is the new Thread Lord for the Jerks and has suggested an updated title of "The Kinder and Gentler Competitive Jerks Racing and Training 2024", I would suggest that he's a Walton in disguise! (as are most over there actually)

I've met quite a few folks across the various threads - Piwi, Watson, Steve, Hashiritai (OK actually just all the kiwis lol).  Piwi and Steve hang out on both threads, albeit they did start here.  To be fair, there's a number of folks on the jerks thread I'd be keen to meet up with if I was ever in the same place as them.

                                Happy belated Christmas all!

I had a lower than usual volume last week due to some work travel to New Orleans (travel there one day, work and return flight the next), and Christmas preparations at home. But at least I got something done of all my disciplines.

I probably have one more workout of each left this week, but here are my approximate annual stats so far:

Total time working out: 268 hours, 215 active days

                                Swimming: 212,000 yards (120 miles)

Bike riding: 1,726 miles (not very impressive, many of you have run farther)

Running: 260 miles (also pretty weak)

Let's see where it goes next year!
