Thanks Jim! So say if I
do
a longer warmup, then it is okay to really race the 10K?
The 14 miler the next day would be good for me but it will be like taking medicine.
I don't know where you got the impression I am stubborn!

Jim, you will be pleased to hear that I did manage to do a 3 mile warmup, and the only reason was because Mr. Forward couldn't get out of bed and go along, so I wasn't delayed by wrangling him along (the thing that would have made a 3 mile warmup unrealistic, not my disinclination to run that far first
) Then I just trained through the race, instead of racing it, I even walked through the water stops! I need to make sure that I get to the Boston starting line fit and not injured. I know that seems really wimpy, but I am ramping up my mileage and am running right now on tight tired legs. Woohooo, I got 1st place in my division anyhow!
I did a nice comfy 9 mile cooldown after that. Thanks for all your advice.
