We are here to support each other in our shared goal. Some of us have broken 3:00 mutliple times, but love the group, so we stay and set new goals to break 3:00. Other people might be 3:10 or above marathoners that are working toward the big 3:00. All are welcome, collectively we will support each other the best we can.
Welcome and please tell us a little about yourself.
I am Dopplebock - I love to run a lot of miles, but I also love to eat and drink so I am a clydesdale 6'3 and 205#. I am hopeful to get down to 190# by surf city Feb 7th. Either way I want to set a marathon PR (2:45:58 -06)
Surf City will be my 20th marathon, although I DNF'd in one of them. I have run 2-50 milers and 3-24 hour races. My love of running and love of eating come together to make me a decent 24 hour racer with a PR of 147.41 miles June 2009.

Here is a link to the origianl sub 3:00 marathon thread - Lots of great stuff in there. But, it is 2,446 post long.
I'm in.
I ran a 3:08:50 this fall and am going for sub 3 at Boston(4/19) this spring.
Finally got under 3 at Chicago this year when everything came together perfectly on race day.
Doing some shorter races now to see if there is any speed at all in my legs (answer so far = not much), and then will try to build up a nice solid base over the next 12-14 weeks (although not the sort of base that you run!). I'll finish that phase off with a 12k (Bay to Breakers) on May 16th, and then I'll be 19 weeks from Berlin.
Looking at a Hudson based plan this time around but I expect it will degenerate into the hodge-podge Pfitz/Daniels combo sorta thing that I usually do.
Mark me down for a try at Boston 4/19/10. My last three have been sub 3 but by the skin of my teeth so I need the motivation of having my name on the list. Thanks for picking up the thread!
Ken,
I just looked up and saw you had a nice cushion there, a whole 28 seconds. My skin must be thinner than yours as I only had 10 seconds to spare. I need the same motivation.
Thanks for stepping for the group, Dopple Bock.
Indeed, I'll join Ken with a sub-3 attempt at Boston in which will be my first marathon race since 2008.
History: PR of 2:58:16 in Oct '08, next best 3:04 in Oct '07. Spent early 2009 training for a 100 miler and the rest of the year recovering! Capped the year with a 1:21:53 for 13.1 which has me hopeful to reach a new level in the marathon.
This is my third Boston so I sort of know what to expect. Note about my last time Boston - after watching the Women's OT together, I edged Dopple Bock (3:06 to his 3:07) in the last marathon he "jogged."
Good luck!

Thanks DB. The thread...she is in good hands. Boy, you didn't mess around. December is barely half over and away you go!
I haven't given up completely but am a major long shot to ever see another sub 3. IF I can get HM down to 1:25's by next fall I might give it another shot. That would be gravy, though. I still find running to be such a rewarding activity that I can't imagine ever not doing it.
Good luck to everyone as we move towards the new year. Jim
Count me in too, please. Rehoboth Marathon, Dec 11, 2010. I don't have anything right now that says I can do it. But, it makes it more fun that way and challenging too.
So far, I've been running fairly consistently for the last two years. Ran 2 marathons, the first just under 4 hours, and the second just under 3:16. So, I've got a long ways to go still.
Don't really have any specific plans on how to get there other than running a bunch and blind faith.
Current Goals: Run and stuff
