RIP Milkman
JT - Forgot to mention - I'll be running a half somewhat in your neighborhood next week (Sono Half in Norwalk). I won't be racing it (running 4 warmup + 13@MP), but I wanted a race set up to do it so that there are aid stations along the way, along with just the mental support of other runners and the race mindset.
5K: 16:37 (11/20) | 10K: 34:49 (10/19) | HM: 1:14:57 (5/22) | FM: 2:36:31 (12/19)
JMac - my last week is
M 0
T 14.4 miles with some MP(ish) (kms 5, 9, 13, 17, 21)
W 5 miles ez
T 5 miles with some MP(ish) (kms 4, 6, 8)
F 3.1 miles with striders
S 0
My recovery from Tuesday will be fine, as MLR recovery is normally 2-3 days. And then a pretty steep taper last 4 days.
PRs: 5km 18:43 (Dec 2015), 10km 39:59 (Sep 2020), half 1:26:16 (Sep 2016), full 3:09:28 (Jun 2015)
40+ PRs: 5km 19:31 (Oct 2020), 10km 39:59 (Sep 2020), half 1:29:39 (Jun 2018), full 3:13:55 (Sep 2022)
2023 PRs (hope to beat in 2024): 5km 20:34, 10km 41:37, half 1:32:32, full 3:21:05
2024 PRs: 5km 20:25
Thanks Andres for setting this up!
JT: Nice looking week. Smart choice on taking it easy for the 5K. Looking forward to seeing what you do in a few weeks. Enjoy the taper! Yes, I'm jealous of that weather. Our change is coming eventually or at least I keep telling myself that
Watson: Best of luck this weekend! You are going to do very well.
Kram: Hope your neck heels quickly. Your fitness is still very strong with those workouts you nailed earlier in the week.
Jayluf: Good luck the next few weekends. Watch the recovery as well.
JMAC: Looking forward to your NYC result.
Mikkey: Solid week including a nice looking workout!
1mile: 4:46 (12/20) | 5K: 15:57 (3/21) | 10K: 33:40 (4/20) | 15K 51:43 (4/21) | HM: 1:15:03 (12/20) | FM: 2:40:30 (1/20)
JMac: The Sono half is the same morning as my marathon! You might as well just go to Hartford and run the half there instead . Looks like Sono is a hilly course, so it should be a good mimic of NYC.
2:52:16 (2018)
Mmmm Bop
Mikkey - If you can run 3x5K on a treadmill at 6:20 pace, you better break 19! You should be threatening your PR with that type of workout, although I understand you really haven't gotten much speed work in.
My treadmill workouts are always faster than outside and my local Parkrun is rolling hills and about 20sec slower than a flat course. The last time I ran it was in Feb (19:06)....and last year I ran it flat out in 18:38 the week before my 2:51 marathon at London. My legs just don’t want to run any faster than 6min/mile pace!
Great week for you! I agree that shooting for 2:55 at NYC is risky and think you should aim Sub3 and pick an easier course next Spring! Your weekly included a game of golf on Friday....what was your score? I used to be a golf fanatic and got down to 7 handicap in my hayday!
5k - 17:53 (4/19) 10k - 37:53 (11/18) Half - 1:23:18 (4/19) Full - 2:50:43 (4/19)
I actually thought about it, but Hartford is a much farther trip than Norwalk. Plus, my sister lives about 5 minutes from the start, so it was a no brainer for me.
This is a very exciting time of year. So many races coming up. Looking forward to all the new Sub 3's!
JMac -
You're in NYC? I'm usually in Central Park on Tues and Th evenings. Maybe I'll bump into you...
Are you in a running club?
First order of business - thanks Andres for the new thread!
Second order of business - Good luck Watson! Tear it up! No tracking, no problem, please have your significant other ride along the course on a bike and post your 5K splits to this thread.
Mikkey - Nice 5K and 10K repeats. I think Dingo may have possibly paid for entry into NYC... I'm not sure if he's planning on running it.
JMac - I think NYC is slightly less than two minutes slower than Chicago, and nobody expects to run a negative split on the course because the climb up First Ave, and then into Central Park. Also, weather has been windy in recent years and that's tough on the bridges. Last year, I was a spectator and wore shorts and was comfortable, may have been a little warm for runners.
kram - when you're in Philly for the HM, perhaps we can meet up? I'k probably running the 8K, we usually head to Tir Na Nog or Con Murphy's after the races. Good Irish bars.
My week, Thu was a busted workout was supposed to be 2x5mi@GMP but I was worn down and did two easy runs instead.

2020 Goals - Sub-2:55 Marathon Up Next: TBD, Boston on 9/14?
Hello all. Refugee from the 2:45 thread here. I'll write up more of a background over the next couple of days. I'm aiming for something near 2:40 at Richmond on November 11th. Probably the most noteworthy thing about my training this cycle is that I'm regulating my workouts by power. Those of you from tri-land wlll likely find this instantly recognizable. It makes my strava run titles funny for workouts, though. Last week:
This was a good week, and I was happy with it, but it's not as good as it looks, as I was sick the previous week so my legs were fresh. I expect paces to drop this week now that I'm back in rhythm. This week I've got my first special block (actually, that was today, but that's for next week's weekly), and am again aiming for something around 100mi.
Cheers!

Glad we are seeing some of the 2:45 runners here. Hopefully we get enough interest that you guys can start your own thread again, but happy to have you.
Rovatti - I am in NYC, but not part of a club. Run almost all my runs in CP, so we've probably passed each other. Thought about joining a club, but I think I want to see how far Daniels can take me in the half/full before getting some more help. Hopefully you're not part of one of those clubs that takes up the entire running lane and expect us normal folk to get out of your way
Fly - Definitely not expecting so negative split for the reasons you stated. The three bridges plus that 5th ave hill make it almost impossible. Of course, you have to be careful not to take too much stock in that and go out at a lightning fast pace in Brooklyn. We'll see what the day gives me, but in 2015 I had a +2:30 split on the back half. If I can get that around +1:30-2:00, I'd be very happy. This fall has been very warm so far which isn't a great trend for race day.
Piwi - Hilarious, disgusting, and also confusing: I guess you're in so much pain at the end of the race you can't feel that something is off?
She laughs at me......
Hi guys, you don't know me, but I was in the group that left RW in 2012. Welcome!
One thing that's different on RA is the main forums like Racing are for questions and information, not dailies. The Recent Topics area shows the most recent posts from all of the public forums. Dailies threads take the top spots, and there are only 15 to begin with. The 2012 people have their own forums, like the one you started. It does reduce the # of people that find your group, but the Beginners and Beyond Forum that started from the BF on RW has 100's of members. The daily conversations aren't something that other RA members want to see every time someone posts. Several hundreds of us descended on this place at one time and it took a little time for everyone to fit in.
Again, welcome!
Thanks for posting, stealth!
