Mick - I'm doing my best to stay healthy - no quick sprints/bursts at the track, keeping to the roads that are in better conditions, doing my evening exercises & stretches.  Just have to hope it's enough.  Nice work last week.

WatsonSorry the 10k didn't go as you hoped, but thank you for the race report.  I, too, have felt GPS is less reliable in heavy clouds.  Best of luck on Saturday.

Kathi - Yup, I was born in NYC and lived in NJ since I was 5.  I know September can bring more heat, but I can always hope, right?

Mark - I couldn't agree more that the best plan is one you stick to.  Thanks.  Good week of work even if it was lighter.

Darkwave - Good to hear your Saturday workout went so well.  What's your next marathon?

Steve - Thanks, and yes I just have to get through the hot days and hope autumn will bring nicer weather.  Glad to hear you had a good week.  Best of luck at the race.

James - Getting back to track work has always been hard for me after hamstring issues - it's tough to push it for fear of reinjury.

    Sorry if I've missed anyone.

The course normally produces fast times due to a small fast field, normally around 100-120 people with over half going sub 40.

Granted that this was a club championship race, I'm still always impressed by how fast NZ fields are compared to my local races.  In my last 10K, fewer than 3% of the field went sub-40.

      Post-1987 PRs:  Half 1:30:14 (2019); 10K 39:35 (2019); 5K 19:12 (2017); Mile 5:37.3 (2020)

MJ, just 2 nights in Atlantic City. Nice weather. Neither of us hit the big jackpot, so back to work.

          BUMMER!

We could do a deal - if you win the powerball jackpot and we could all retire that would be sweet!!!

Brother, you should be siding with ME on this!!!!  If I were to win the powerball jackpot, I would certainly share that with you and Kathi. No doubt about that!

Now - good luck Steve & Watson, is there a way to track it? Otherwise we will just wait and look out for the race report.

I heard a lot of good things about not fueling a lot during your long run, as it trains your body to run on empty and dig deeper. Well I don't have so much money, so today I did my long run and had one gel which I took at around 2/3 of the run and then had plenty of gummy bears which tasted juck because they got warm, and had a few of those strawberry gummies which I love, they are friom Haribo and have the shape of a strawberry. But that was really nice. So that is the hack, if you don't want to overspend on gels etc.

Yesterday I saw a girl with one shoe off, and the running shoe in her right hand. Walking back from the forest. I thought hm that looks odd. As I got closer I saw she had those "no socks" socks on - i.e. her achilles had totally been unprotected and was bleeding....poor girl. I am sure it looked all stylish for the first 3 miles and then turned into this nightmare.

Mick - I think the latest thoughts from nutritionists is it’s better to fuel to train your gut and to help with recovery. I’ve tended towards not fueling too but I’m having a rethink.

Watson starts at 7:45am (1 hour 45 mins from now) and tracking is available on the Runaway app. Watson is number 532.

My race is way too small for tracking, but the course is certified because it’s a championship race. Unfortunately it doesn’t start until 3:30pm which feels like a looooong time away.

Thanks Mark. It’s perfect here now but the wind is supposed to be 20km/h by start time. Hope it’s not as painful as this rugby match…

One of the lotteries here was something crazy like $1.2 billion. Plenty to retire very comfortably on and share. the joke at work is if you win on of the massive ones you make a big donation as you peace out.

                            Go Watson!
