RIP Milkman
RP with mile 21 at 6:58, that is very impressive!

Kipchoge dropped before 1h40 in the race.
It seemed like as soon as his missed that water bottle, he was immediately affected and dropped by the rest of the pack. I couldn't imagine a small mistake like that would have such a negative impact on someone with so much experience.
Also, if he was there to win, why wouldn't he drop out when he was ~90 seconds behind? Of course, you want athletes to give their all without quitting but wouldn't that have helped him with recovery vs getting 6th place? Maybe the greatest runners are just built differently than us amateurs.

He has a legitimate shot at PR!

After he crossed the finish line he pointed to his quads, the early downhills might have crushed him. Or maybe he was injured for a while during his training camp and couldn't train properly.
Also, their contracts with both the race and the sponsor pay considerably more if they finish the race.
I knew he would have a tough day out there with the youngsters.

Appearance fees are sometimes conditioned at least in part on finishing the race. Plus 6th place comes with some cash.
Additionally, Boston generally has a clause in its contracts limiting athletes from competing in any other marathon for a certain period after, regardless of whether they finish Boston. IF he had that clause in his contract, then dropping out to recover and try for another spring marathon would not have been an option.
Everyone's gotta running blog; I'm the only one with a POOL-RUNNING blog.
And...if you want a running Instagram where all the pictures are of cats, I've got you covered.

2:55:22!
RP's final mile in 6:30 for a finish time of 2:55:22!!!!!!
Not only an amazing PR, but I think this is major vindication that he is the real deal and not living off some fantasy-version of what the CIM course is.
What an amazing run!
Marathon Scott strikes again!!!

Now the only problem is that he’ll be telling all the rest of us slackers how easy the Boston course is.
