It shouldn't have got to this point if they'd controlled the border properly - apparently up until a week ago, 2/3rds of border staff hadn't been tested which just seems ridiculous.
Agreed. This is the biggest calamity of the whole thing - if we were going for elimination and isolating at the border there had to be some very robust systems in place but there was no real reason to expect them to do that, given past form when it comes to delivery rather than slogans.
Can you please live stream your attempt to sneak into the Waikato through a farm? Make sure it's a sheep farm to keep flavio happy.
I see Mt Manganui will decide by Monday whether to postpone to November - I would think a possibility is a 2 week extension of restrictions but that would cut it too close I guess. Before I planned to race on September 13 I agreed to join a team in the North Canterbury Adventure Race on August 29 - it's beginner level with 5-10km of running and 30-40km of mountain biking so not too strenuous but at level 2 I'm not sure how it would go ahead. The Sri Chinmoy I'm aiming on September 13 could possibly go ahead at level 2 though - very small race and any council fees to use the park would have already been paid. Then again, if park run is cancelled...
Here's hoping the news later today is not too bad. They did just report cases outside Auckland though. Watson's prediction is probably on the money, although if it's spread elsewhere in the North Island then perhaps level 3 could apply further than Auckland...selfishly, I hope that doesn't extend to the South Island.

If Rotorua Marathon is going ahead, but Auckland is still locked down at that time, I will absolutely be doing that, might need to borrow the father-in-law's 4WD though.
I think Mt. will just go for their fallback date regardless, to be honest. It's only 2 weeks until the race, I think there's a realistic likelihood that the whole North Island is in for 2 weeks at Level 3. If I was the race director, and I had a fallback date that Council had signed off on (i.e. zero/minimal extra cost associated with it), I'd be making it easy for myself.
Your race might be OK at level 2. Remember Parkrun is ultimately subject to whatever global Parkrun decides. That's not true of Sri Chinmoy races, they can do what they like as long as they do it within the applicable rules.

"CONSISTENCY IS KING"
Jmac winter here is mild. Surfing is fine with a decent wetsuit. Actually yes surfing is ok in level 3.
Keen yes they dont want coastguard etc called out. Of course all emergency services were ridiculously quiet during the last lockdown as everyone was at home.
Just saw Jake Robertson run past my house

Somewhere in between is about right "
I really doubt we will have a situation where Auckland is level 3 and the rest of the country is level 1.

Yeah, I don’t think anyone is predicting that option. They’ll keep it within one level
Piwi - you should've tried to join him for a bit!!
Watson - I agree. Definitely feeling for Magrawlas right now from the marathon thread... he was gunning for the Wellington Marathon, which I'd say is pretty unlikely to go ahead.
Ouch. My wife is doing the 10km there and both kids the magic mile. In the unlikely event it happens.
Its pretty warm here today and he was wearing full tracksuit

Who on earth thought it was a good idea to make this lockdown announcement 5:30pm on a Friday night?
Someone who calculated when they'd get the most attention
12 days at Level 3 in Auckland, Level 2 everywhere else, to be reviewed next Friday.
Anyway I'd say that's Mount Maunganui Half gone, but there's still a shot Rotorua Marathon happens.
Incidentally, we surely have to defer the election because of this?
You National guys
Level 2 thank goodness for us. Mark bummer if Mount is canned. 1st world problems I guess

Postponed mate to their reserve date in November. Just got the email.
I think Rotorua will happen.
Wellington Cross Country postponed.
Instead my club is going to do its Cross Country race tomorrow (originally was just going to be included in Wellington). No taper for this, so low aim:
Trentham Harriers Cross Country
Saturday 15 August
8.3km
Aim 38:45 (4:40/km pace)

I bloody hope so.
Good luck for tomorrow. At least someone gets to race!!
