Hot Weather Complainer
Nice weeks all.
JamesD - Good luck with hamstring and hernia.
Watson - Ouch! That sounds nasty. Hopefully not worse than bruising and I agree with piwi - glad it's not a leg injury so hopefully you won't be off your feet too long. Keep us updated.
Welcome Josh!
piwi - I get that on rare occasions on a normal day but a lot in the hour after a hard run.
me - Another solid week but hit the wall a bit on my long run. Very warm morning but I felt a bit off right from the start. I was hoping to do 6km tempo but bailed out at 3km. I probably could have tried to finish it but I would have had a speed fade and suffered a lot so with darkwave's words ringing in my head I decided I was better to live to fight another day. I may need a lighter week this week - luckily I have a session with the coach tomorrow.

Steve i was similar on my long-run yesterday. My heart rate was already high after 10kms. I was hitting 160 to 170 which is my 5k 10k type readings. Alot warmer than im used to. Hoping my 3 races coming up aren't too hot but this weekends one starts at 10am.

Somewhere in between is about right "
Watson - oh no! Hope it's nothing too serious. I took a tumble a few months ago and that scared the crap out of me although I fortunately only ended up with a couple of minor scrapes to show for it.
Steve- nice week, it's been noticeably warmer up here too. Forecast looking fairly warm for the Auckland Marathon / Half next weekend so kind of relieved I'm not running it.
Flavio - 830m laps? Is it around a park or something like that?
Darkwave- I hear you on the rebuild! I'm normally about a week to be fully recovered from a half, so I guess I should expect a marathon to be well over 2 weeks before I'm recovered and ready to train normally again.
Zebano - 4 social runs in one week haha that would do my head in.
James - hope it's not a hernia. I think JMac may have had an experience with a sports hernia?
Me - easy recovery run today brought me back to earth with a thump as the body still isn't there yet. I'll see how I'm feeling and make a final call tomorrow but I've yo-yo'ed back towards not running Road Champs, got some random soreness in my right quad and my right PF is a bit niggly too. I pushed it too hard coming out of my last marathon and ended up having a couple of fairly average months with ITB issues as a consequence. Plus it looks like being a bit of a non-event, there are only 8 (!!) entrants in the M35-49 so far with a week until entries close - aside from the fact it's in the middle of the day and could be very hot if recent weather is anything to go by.

"CONSISTENCY IS KING"
Also Piwi / Steve- I've noticed a higher HR on my easier runs too as the weather has warmed up.
Piwi - that Mt. Half / 10km at the end of November will almost certainly be warm. Omaha Half is normally around that time of year and it's always been hot and occasionally humid.
You certainly would not have wanted a serious injury six months into your marathon "cycle".
I am not surprised NZ Road Champs has a low turn out. The delays and uncertainty plus a middle of the day race would mean few would travel. Plus being a week after Auckland marathon.
Just had x-rays, waiting results.

Watson - Ouch! Hope the X-rays are negative and you just have really bad bruises.
Piwi - I get dizzy after standing up quite often, and it seems to have gotten more frequent over the last several days. Maybe two or three times a day.

Shoulder is a rotator cuff injury.
Elbow might be a small fracture of the radius. I will see the fracture clinic another day.
In a sling now.
That sucks Watson.
It's probably small consolation but I know two people who've slipped over during runs and broken their collarbones (one on the footpath and one on trail).
All the best for a speedy recovery.
That is a REALLY small consolation
Thanks everyone for your concern.

James - Sorry to hear that, hopefully it will be over soon regardless of what you have.
Watson - Ugh, so sorry to hear. I had a couple of falls a few years back and they sucked, though they weren’t as hard as yours.
It must have been incredibly fast that you didn’t have time to instantly put your hands in front.
Piwi - that happens sometimes, it’s like it blacks out for a bit and I have to scratch my eyes and wait a couple of seconds.
Mark - yeah, 830m roughly, see this map.
me - And my race has been cancelled after the new decree from the federal government banning ALL races except those at the national level. Since this was a regional championship it got axed
It's a shame, I was really hoping to use all those rabbits to pull me for a sub 18.
That said, the race was going to be run on a public non walled square, on a measured course (JMAC approved ® ) and we can no longer cancel the hotel, so we'll run it anyway, unless they ban city to city travel, in which case we'll run it here in Bologna anyway, unless they ban running outside, in which case we'll run it anyway, at 4am when there's nobody looking, unless they barricade the building and put soldiers outside with AK 47s, in which case we'll run it anyway, doing 60m laps around the building.

James & Watson, condolences, I hope these pass quickly.
Mark - Skipping is probably the right call, but ouch there just aren't many races right now.
Flavio - good luck with the time trial!
1600 - 5:23 (2018), 5k - 19:33 (2018), 10k - 41:20 (2021), half - 1:38:57 (2018), Marathon - 3:37:17 (2018)
Watson good luck on the recovery.
Flavio man that sucks!
We will definitely let you have some extra time back for a time trial.
Zebano - New Zealand has had less cancellations than most places.
Flavio - I hit hard. I was also looking at my watch, I think, as it started making me a worse position. I did partially get my hands out as I did get cuts on my hand. Sorry about your race.

Watson, what's the diagnosis on recovery? Can you jog or not at all until it heals?
No jogging for a while. I will need to see Fracture Clinic and Physio first. I am thinking 3 to 6 weeks before I run again.
