I AM SO EXCITED FOR DAYLIGHT SAVINGS, IT'S THE BEST TIME OF THE YEAR
Okay now that I got that out of my system:
I will think of you when I do YET ANOTHER TRACK WORKOUT IN THE DARK tomorrow morning.
Everyone's gotta running blog; I'm the only one with a POOL-RUNNING blog.
And...if you want a running Instagram where all the pictures are of cats, I've got you covered.
JMac - I will race pre June, not sure where yet.
Steve - I vaguely thought of flying down for that race . It looked to be a quick course at the proper length.
PRs: 5km 18:43 (Dec 2015), 10km 39:59 (Sep 2020), half 1:26:16 (Sep 2016), full 3:09:28 (Jun 2015)
40+ PRs: 5km 19:31 (Oct 2020), 10km 39:59 (Sep 2020), half 1:29:39 (Jun 2018), full 3:13:55 (Sep 2022)
2023 PRs (hope to beat in 2024): 5km 20:34, 10km 41:37, half 1:32:32, full 3:21:05
2024 PRs: 5km 20:25
RIP Milkman
I think I read somewhere that track workouts in the dark make you mentally stronger. Even better if you can do it blindfolded. With a TV on your back. With no miles in the DZ.

I still can't believe you NZ have this course issue. Someone needs to start an official measurement company and sell to folks why it's so important. Granted, this was a race director issue, but still the lack of measuring / errors in your country would be horrifying to me.
I actually enjoy track workouts in the dark. Seriously. One of my favourite workouts last year was 5:30am on a Saturday morning in the middle of winter with a whole lot of fog around.

This is the first one I've seen - the same company ran the South Island Half-Marathon last August and it was run perfectly. It seems they did measure it officially but then when the person went to put that marker out the next day they mistakenly thought a different paint marker was the correct one.
I'm trying to imagine myself coming up to the finishing line knowing I'm a mile short...especially if a PB/goal was possible.

JMac - put me down for 1:16:59. That's basically something I arrived at from 17.1km fast, plus 4km of crap (trail through the regional park with a big-ass hill) and an allowance for weather (warm temps, probably a bit humid, might be some wind around). My goal is really to run most of the race (the 17.1km) at circa PB pace as prep for Waterfront, and then the time for the race will be what it is allowing for the slower section.
Watson/Steve/JMac (re course distance) - I have to say, I did see that race advertsised and it looked pretty amateur-ish. I know JMac likes to make digs about course length in NZ,in my experience it's tended to be the smaller one-off type events that are problematic (like that one). Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Rotorua, Dunedin are all fine, and any of the events run by either Ironman NZ or Running Events tend to be OK as well (they're not always certified, but they're certainly properly measured).

Watson - it is indeed, but knowing me you’ll know that with a 1h24 half PR (that is almost 4 years old) I’ll not toe the line if not for a sub3.
Corey/Jmac - I also liked that the US changed time as now we’re only one hour apart and it makes life easier with my US colleagues.
Jmac - A female runner on my running group was telling us the other day she carried 3 avocados during a marathon, for energy
I will run a marathon again when I can have a good degree of confidence that it will be a sub 3. Or I have a massive break through in strength. As is right now every marathon race demolishes me, literally and that’s not very fun.
Just to give you an idea how much of a weakling I am, my wife currently does more pull ups than me at the functional training gym.
Steve - I have in the past considered the possibility of turning back before the finish line and run to the proper distance if I ever am faced with a shorter course on a target race.
Darkwave - I love your de-lurkings.
MickJogger - please comment on carrying sausages inside pants during runs and your best recipes with sausages.

In my defense, I'm still the resident jar opener
I am not sure if the above increases or decreases the chances of my future delurkings.
I'm sure MickJogger will deliver!
On running news, here's what I have for tomorrow:
5x200 + 4000 in 16 minutes + 5x200
And on Thursday it's going to be a progression run:
3k @ 5:00 + 3k @4:30 + 3k @ 4:00 + 1K @ 3:50
This is going to be a fun week...
Jmac - So I will finally race again on March 23rd. However, it will be a relay race in a group of 4 people. It's going to be 28 laps around a park that is 2144m, so roughly 60km. Apparently we can run a lap all out then somebody takes over and you can rest until it's your turn again.
The running coach created this internal race to integrate the people in the running group. 80 people signed up, so he split their names in 4 jars, jar 1 with the fastest, jar 2 the slightly slowest and so on. Then he drew the names out of the jars to make the teams, so that the teams are roughly similar in speed.
It should be fun, but probably not worthy of the front page table.
Flavio- one of my team-mates over in the '2019 in 2019' game has run several similar relays. It sounds quite fun, especially if the teams have been balanced fairly evenly. The team element definitely adds to it, I can remember from national road relays last year, I was absolutely hating the last of the three horrible hills I had to climb on my leg and the only thing that kept me going was the fact my team-mates were waiting at the top of the hill and I couldn't let them down (particularly because I had the last leg and they'd already done all the hard work!!).
Steve- there are definitely a few courses that read short in NZ. North Shore is one (tends to be about 400m short), and then one year Huntly was about 600m short because they changed the course and someone screwed something up. Any of the courses that get used for regional or national champs are generally OK because either the local athletics body or Athletics NZ will check they've been measured correctly, this can include some of the smaller races (e.g. Auckland HM Champs has been at Waterfront and Devonport).
I wonder how many kiwis have PRs from pre GPS days ehwhi should have never been PRs?
Flavio - they sound like hard workouts.
