Planning on Getting my booster about the end of February.  I think you are right (hopefully) in that it will end up like the flue vaccine.

Had my booster yesterday and felt pretty crap this morning.  Seems to be improving pretty quickly though.  Glad I timed it to line up with my rest day.  TBH I'm pretty sure we need a better plan though, it's not sustainable to expect people to get boosters every 4-6 months.  Maybe it'll become like the flu vaccine ultimately... where there's one each year covering the prevalent strains which you can choose to get (or not).

      Nice Weeks by every too

I had another good week and an increase in weekly mileage I'll probably take a cutback week this week and rest up a bit.

Wow I fell way behind here. I had an absolutely absurd week at work which included me missing 2 runs and multiple crosstraining sessions to get everything fixed. Oh well, it happens and I had a solid weekend.

Watson / Flavio good job relaxing and doing non-running activities. I learned how to disassemble and clean my dishwasher last week

are any of you (especially the US) starting to see half empty supermarkets?

I missed  the Willis sub-4, awesome that he made it.

Corey, nice long run, what's with the 500m event on the 26th?

None of that here in the NYC region.  The worst was when the pandemic first hit, between panic buying and supply line issues we had a few shortages, but nothing really serious and it's been fine since then.  Cars, on the other hand, are still very expensive and dealer lots are relatively empty.

YES!!!  It is like Mar 2020 all over again where I can no longer go to the store with a specific list and expect to find things I just have to on-the-fly decide what can make a meal.  And it's so random what's out of supply like vacuum-sealed sliced salami or sour cream or goldfish crackers.  Definitely supply chain issues and not people hoarding.

I had an unexpected brutal recovery week that 's not worth mentioning (27 mi).  I felt so miserable last week that I'm seriously rethinking going ahead with my challenge.

Steve - Do you have a newsletter or podcast to which I could subscribe? Nice week, too.

Piwi - Good week. 40 seconds recovery after 1.5k at threshold? Sounds aggressive to me.

Mark - Daydreams of zombie apocalypse? You should be good for Rule #1: Cardio.

Watson - What are those "at risk populations"? By chance do some of those include conditions that are self-inflicted and reversible, that no manner of restrictions imposed upon others will do anything to lessen?

Flavio - Nice job grabbing that crown. I also lost one last week - on a guy's very first run on Strava... Have you gotten that MRI rescheduled yet?

Zebano - Sucks about work getting in the way of things! We have been seeing some shortages here. Clearly supply chain related, not hoarding.

Had a planned cutback in mileage last week, which also provided a tiny bit of taper for my trail 20k. That was a TON of fun, though I do now know where all those stabilizers I don't typically use as much are located. Just a bit of soreness still lingering, particularly when I've been sitting and not moving. No pain or need to adjust my stride while running.

Also, our weather forecast for the week looks "interesting" and could well lead to panic-induced shortages in stores:

                Problem Child

way too much COVID discussions to comment. I'm skipping over it. I'll just say it's pretty crazy if the New Zealand Government won't grant admission to a citizen who is pregnant. Like....President Donald J Trump was called all kinds of names for closing borders to other countries. New Zealand is actually keeping a citizen OUT of country "due to COVID 19."  WOW.

                  My week:

Pretty good considering I was just going after elevation gain. Upcoming race in March and I want to actually treat it like I would a marathon so the focus is elevation gain/climbing to see how it feels. I'm confident I can FINISH the race. I would just like to get some climbing legs to be more competitive with past results on UltraSignUp. I was aiming for about 5,000 ft of elevation gain this week. I have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHAT I'M DOING training for this upcoming race. I just know there is elevation gain and the guy I respect the most for ultra running imparted on me the importance of elevation gain as part of weekly training. I think he said something about getting the total elevation gain in a week of running, and also in one long run. It's kind of a blur and we don't talk anymore. It's sad to think about sometimes.

1/27 was a BAD day at work and I was about to spend 2 hours or more running just to work it off. One of those "well I'm done working for the day. It's only 1pm too."

1/30 was for absolutely for the people living outside of the United States. -9.4C to 8.3C in just a matter of about 6 hours. This is the place I call home.

According to the internet my elevation is about 1370m.

172 miles makes January my highest mileage month since September, but my recently weekly totals have been short of where I'd ideally like to be with 6 weeks left until my first half of the season.  Que será, será.

darkwave - glad the injection helped and that you’re homing in on the problem.  Hope that’s the beginning of its end.

Grocery stores - We’ve had sporadic shortages for the last few weeks.  Maybe 10-20% of the things we look for aren’t available at any given time.  Luckily, one or the other of DW & I pass very near a store several times a week, so if something important is out, it’s not much trouble to check back in a day or two.

Me - My hamstring seems to be doing better, but I had more side effects than I expected from my first shingles vaccine on Friday.  Started shivering Friday night (bed was warm) and shivered so hard it woke up DW, who has slept through minor earthquakes.  Gradually got better, but I've had trouble sleeping since then, which is unusual.  I also felt dizzy several times one day early in the week, so I might have had something else that was aggravated by the vaccine.  I ran (slowly, of course) on the treadmill that day without trouble and wasn’t dizzy on the following days, so I figured it was ok to get the vaccine.

Around here, we had massive supply chain issues in the spring of 2020, including a lack of paper towels, toilet paper, and fresh vegetables.  That was all clear after a few months.

We had a bout of food shortages a few weeks ago, but that was due to weather more than Covid.

However, prescription cat food (yes, it's a niche concern) is a real headache right now.  My cats are all on a brand of prescription canned food that has been out of stock for 6 weeks now, with no hope of being back in stock anytime soon.  I have an emergency back-up supply that I'm working my way through, while testing alternatives from other manufacturers (that are sometimes out of stock as well).

Zeb - Willis was last in 3.59. It was a stacked race which must have helped pull him through. Those 200m tracks would be slower than a 400m ? Tight corners. Any of you guys have experience on these ?

CC hang in there the motivation will return.

Keen I managed to talk him round to 60 sec recovery.  That was doable for me but he started to struggle so we cut back from 7 to 5 reps.

Great job on that trail race.

RP nice job on the Elevation. I haven't run a hill in months. They are so good for strength.

Arunnerd 1k intervals at 5k pace are killer. I used to do 6 with 90 sec recovery but now in my older age do 5

James its a  bugger when a vaccine does this.

I hope you feel better soon.

Darkwave we got another cat at Xmas. That makes 4

Piwi - I always feel slower on the corners on a regular track but no idea how an indoor track impacts that (I assume the corners are tighter, and/or represent more of a proportion of the track as a whole?).  I feel like a short indoor track would likely be slower but I'm really just guessing.  It does take weather largely out of the equation though.

Corey - nice job with the build back up.  Honestly a lot of people I know have had very minimal reaction to the booster so fingers crossed the same for you.

RP - only 10% of pregnant NZ women who have applied for a border exemption to come home were actually granted one.  Not great.  Running lots of hills at elevation will get you pretty hardcore, pretty quick.

Zebano - ugh, bummer on the busy week at work.

Caitlin - sorry to hear you had a rough week, hope this week goes better.

Keen - that is some forecast turnaround in the weather mid-week!!  Crazy!!

Arunnerd - good news on the knee!

Fred - still tracking well, and still 6 weeks to go, though!

James - hope you're feeling better soon.

OK, I think that's everything.  Busy on here!
