14 MILE

Notes

This run would have turned into a disaster for me today. Lucky escapre again. It was just a normal Nov day (slightly cold but when one on the move is usually fine) for the first 6 miles and then the horror. Hale Stones and freezing rain on my face. I was completely soaked to the bone, frozen and I could hardly feel my fingertips especiall y on the right hand. My head froze and my hands could not feel anything from 7th to 10th mile. A woman stopped and offered me a lift which I declined at the time. It became worse with the hale stones. In the end I was starting feeling my blood moving into my veins again. I had to throw my favourite water bottle because I was frozen with my hands not able to carry it. At 10th mile as I started climbiing up hill I did feel warmer and as the wind had calmed down I felt slightly better. My legs felt strong and relatively warm at all times as I kept moving. It was just my head and hands that suffered. I was running well otherrwise. My first 6 miles in approximately 52 min with the struggle starting from 6th to 10th mile but I did the last 3 miles well and my last mile I run in 7.45. I was just heading home as fast as I could. A warm shower after what I went through made me feel alive again. It almost felt as I was going to depart. But in the end I was proud that I did not give up whilst silly at the same time for not being prepared for the day. Next time and any time from now on my warm hat and gloves will be coming with me. The summer has gone for good. I did an overall pace of 9 min per mile and nearly 14 miles. I am delighted but feeling very tired now. Today was the Athns Classic Marathon with Vlasis running. So I did proud to share this from a distance but in different weather.
