An ordinary day for me. I started well and the first 1/2 went almost exactly to plan-I was looking pretty good for 3:45 to 3:50. At 25km I started getting cramps (like last year) and at 28km I was getting bad pains in my right foot. I took my orthotics out to relieve the pressure but it didn't work. I was running a few steps, walking a bit for a few km before walking only. I put the orthotics back in for a bit only to take them out again as I couldn't walk at all with them. The pain did settle after a long walk and I ran the last 2.2km although not overly fast. I think even without the injury I wouldn't have done that well due to the lack of training-4 hours maybe?
I think the foot issue was caused by my shoes-they are too supportive. I had similar pains in the 1/2 marathon the week before but thought I had the innersole in wrong. They are now short training run shoes only.
