OOOOMF. Planned to do a 5 mile tempo at 5:30 today and almost hit it perfectly. I did this on the treadmill because I have never done a tempo this far at this speed and wanted to make sure I could do this properly. Obviously when looking at the stats/splits it shows proper times, however the the distances are off, I recognize this and this is because I would just follow the treadmill distance that it showed and I would then press a button on my watch that records a manual split. This worked just fine.

I started out at 10.7 mph (5:36 pace) on the treadmill and as I got to mile 3 I began bumping it up until the last mile I bumped it up to 11.2 mph (5:21 pace) with bout 0.85 left to go. Overall very solid tempo and this is a great indicator of where I am at with my training.

So within this tempo I learned something about myself today which I found very interesting. As I started, I sluggish and slow and had no idea how I was going to finish this tempo. However, by mile 2 I had already begun to feel much more comfortable and by mile 3 I felt like I was golden. The last 2 miles did themselves and knowing I built into this workout felt awesome, but I learned the hardest part of any workout or even run is starting, and once I get comfortable within whatever I am doing I will be fine.

This will be my final workout of the summer and I am so excited for this XC season.
