Notes

Geneva Sunset 5k. Came into the race with low expectations, but knew that I was fit enough to squeak something in the mid 16 range out. Things went out at a respectable pace, and I was feeling good through the mile, which was a 5:15. About 400m later I dropped the pack I was running with and began to chase down the two leaders who had about a 50m gap on me. At the halfway point I was at 8:15, right on pace for my goal and feeling not amazing, but certainly alright.

Unfortunately I was struck with a sudden and debilitating asthma attack heading into the 2 mile, which I passed in 10:33. I tried to relax, slowed down, and even stopped and resumed running again but my breath was gone. Foolishly, I continued on for about 400m longer gasping for air the whole time, which made things worse. As I'm typing this 5 hours later, I'm still struggling to breathe fully. Asthma is a bitch, but I've got no choice but to live with her. This is the 5th time I've been hit with an attack like this in a late summer/early fall race, and each time it's subsided as the temperature drops. All I can do is keep moving forward.
