Cardiovascular effort=6, but muscular & mental effort =9.
Under-dressed in shorts & short-sleeved shirt based on AM weather report, so legs started cramping about 1/2 way through. Took 1 Clif shot at mi. 9, but was under-fueled; stopped for gatorade @ Newton Corner (near mi 14); VERY hungry! Mentally, miles 8-9 and 13 were tough -- first time I'd done this distance, so reminded myself how I got over similar hurdles in 1/2 marathon training, and ran through it.
Energetically felt good -- hill portion of marathon route was very manageable. Snow & garbage cans along 16/Comm Ave slowed me down some. Had energy to run last 2 mi at closer to tempo pace, but calves, knees, and hamstrings really hurt until I got warm & stretched.
