My aim was to come in below 1:24:00!! I have no idea how this happened. Paced with Laury, Anne and Emily for the first lap. I knew that Laury was only completing the 5k and that she wanted to achieve a good time, so I stayed ahead of her just until about a quarter mile from the end. I passed Anne and Emily about half a mile from the end of the first 5k. Knew that Anne was not too far behind and so just tried to keep my pace. The second two laps can get lonely so I just focused on walkers, and other runners. Saw Ophelia around mile 5! When I saw her again around mile 7 she yelled out to me, "you're fast!" (She had only progressed one mile by then. Focused on a woman in pink as well as another LMJSer 15ker in yellow shirt. He had been quite far ahead of me during the first two laps and I was somewhat surprised to have him in passable distance. First passed him, and then the woman in pink. Convinced myself that the guy in yellow had intentionally slowed down and now would get his second wind and try to pass me...so I just kept up my pace. As I passed Fairyland, I realised that I had slowed down, so just went for it. It's such a good feeling to have others cheering you on...Laury, Jeremy, Lorraine. All of whom I look up to so much. First 5k was 26:33, 2nd 5k maybe at 53:15, which is faster than my 10k PR. As I approached the end and saw the clock I thought it was broken or I had miscounted my laps! Just thrilled. 1st in AG.
