Cool down after the triathlon. Due to the staggered swim start I'm pretty sure I finished the race before the last few competitors were out of the pool. I knew Brittney would be in the middle of the pack so she would have started 20-30 minutes after me and probably be about halfway done with the bike. So I headed out backwards on the course and cheered for bikers as they went by. Hopefully this didn't confuse them about the run course since I'm sure many of them wouldn't expect someone to keep running. I didn't want to get too far out so I just ran a mile stretch back and forth and by the 4th mile I saw her coming toward the finish. She gave me a smile and a wave so she seemed to still be having fun, which is good since I knew the worst part was about the come. I stayed near the end of the first lap and she showed up right around 8-9 minutes like I expected. She had to walk for 10-20 seconds but based on the time I knew she must have run the rest of the lap to be there that quickly. She kind of gave me a look like she didn't want to do this anymore but I told her she was close to being done and she should just alternate between running and walking the rest of the way if she has to to finish. She gave a nod and started running again and didn't stop again! She finished her run in 31 minutes which is pretty solid considering her actual 5k PR is around 29 minutes. Overall she was happy with the race and I think she was more and more pleased with it as the day went by and she saw her results. She finished in 1 hour 46 minutes and already seems set on doing it again next year.
