Luther Alumni Mile. I got out in a good spot behind Birch and Patrick. Birch started to pull away from us and I hoped that he was going a little too fast because I wasn't ready to catch up. Patrick seemed fine with letting him go which made me think we were fine and as we went through the 200 I felt good about letting Birch go since we were still out pretty quick. I think on the next lap the Luther freshman went around me and kind of pushed his way in when there wasn't much of a gap. I settled into 4th feeling really good actually. We went through the halfway point right around 2:12 and I was actually debating when to try to make a move, but it felt just hard enough that I kept telling myself to wait until the next lap, or the next lap. So the third quarter slowed quite a bit more than I realized and Patrick and the Luther runner took off with a couple laps to go. Birch stayed kind of close and I wasn't ready to move ahead of him yet. I thought I could have a big kick but Birch matched me on the corner and I never really got going again after he took off. I still ran two 32s to close the race which isn't bad. Especially since I probably lost some time trying to go around Birch.

Overall I'm pretty happy with the race but I wish I would have tried to move a little more during the 3rd quarter. I was feeling good and think I could have picked it up a little bit. I don't think making a big move would have felt great though so I'm not sure how I could have picked it up just a little with 3 guys in front of me. Either way, it was my fastest opener in the last 3 years and definitely the best I have felt. I'm confident I could cut a few more seconds off right now.
