Swim of the Hyvee 5150 US Champsionship. The race was cut in half due to flooding in Des Moines so the swim was 750m. The wave start seemed bigger than last year. I think they combined more age groups. I started with 15-39 year olds (~100 maybe). I did better swimming in the pack but still struggled through the mess of people. We turned left about 200m in and from then on I had much more space. I did my best to swim hard but could tell I was still losing a lot of ground to the top swimmers from my age group. The race wasn't wetsuit legal and I could tell that kicking took its toll this year. My legs were burning during part of the swim from trying to go so hard. I still ended up with a slower swim than I expected. This is probably due to not having the wetsuit but I also think the distance was a little long since all of the times look a little slow. I still lost 4 minutes to the top guys from the Elite wave.
