Notes

Signed up for the 3k at Platteville but they didn't end up having anybody sign up. They asked if I would be interested in the 5k or mile instead and both fields didn't look ideal. The mile only had 4 guys and the fastest time was 4:27. The 5k had 8 guys and the slowest time was 15:03. This would have been great if I was a little more confident in the 5k, but since I haven't run one on the track in 3 year (never indoors), I thought sub 15 pace could be a little rough. I signed up anyway and thought about different options in the race. I kind of settled with going with the pack as long as I could and still trying to get a good 3k and then possibly dropping out if that was all I had. So I went in with a kind of poor mentality of planning on dropping out, but at the same time was hoping I would just feel good and run a surprising time. The 5k is no mile though and I can't just hop in and run really well. I went through the mile right on the pack in 4:43 not feeling that bad. After that two of the other runners started to fall back and I was also tiring so I started to fall back with them. Here is where I debated going around and staying with the lead pack through 3k or now hanging on these other guys through the 5k. I never went around them, but I never convinced myself that I wanted to do the entire 5k either. So I still peeled off around 3k not feeling extremely tired but not feeling good either. I've sort of stated a lot of excuses and could put more but quite frankly it was just a really poor mental effort. I think I'm in shape to run a pretty good 5k and plan on taking care of it outdoors. I'm just going to forget about this race.

9 flat still not bad for 3k, just saying.

But ya, you were just kind of a wimp. Happens to the best of us.
