Notes

3k at Cornell. I got out to the lead since the only other guy I thought might lead (Devin Albaugh) told me he was just going to try to run fast enough to win the race. So I took off like last year hoping to be a on pace for a time a little under 9. Coach Schofer from Cornell was kind enough to give me splits since they don't have a clock. I started out at 36 and knew I wanted to try to run 35.xx per lap so I tried to pick it up a little. But every lap continued to be 36. I dropped Albaugh for a little bit and went through the 1k in 3:00. By the mile he was back on me and we were ~4:48-4:49. I knew this still wasn't bad but I was hoping to be faster and was really frustrated with how tired I was already feeling through a 4:48 mile. I was hoping to really pick it up the last 1k but each lap was taking its toll. Went through the 2k in 6:02 and I told myself I would wait another lap or 2 since I wasn't feeling like I had a ton left. Albaugh went by me with 4 to go and basically blew my doors off. Due to already not feeling very good I didn't try very hard to stay with him and basically just let him run away from me the rest of the race. I think I kind of gave up at that point. I never did pick it up and was just waiting for the race to be over. The last lap was a little quicker but not by much. Overall I'm pretty bummed with the race. The mile made me think I could run around 8:50-8:55 even if I had to do a lot of the work and I didn't come all that close. Getting beat by 10 seconds in the last 800m of a race should never happen to me either. I have a lot of thoughts about not eating and sleeping right leading up to the race but I'm most disappointed with letting someone crush me that badly at the end of a race. That is where I try to have the most fight in a race and I kind of just gave up.

The positive takeaway is that I didn't feel that great about my race and still wasn't much over 9 minutes. Hopefully I can bounce back in another 3k in a few weeks.

9:03 isn't anything to scoff at. Sorry it wasn't what you wanted, but it's early.

You're racing at alumni right?

Thanks Maggie. I will be racing the mile and 1k at alumni. Are you racing as well?
