Not a lot to say about this race. We got out harder than I would have liked but I felt pretty decent so I jumped on the pace. 2:21 through the 800 but I slowed a little after that and was 4:48 through the mile which should have been perfect. But at that point my back was already tight and I was just slowing down the rest of the way. I honestly debated dropping out my back was feeling so tight but that always feel even more embarrassing so I stuck it out hoping that maybe it would go away and I could kick it back into gear. It never really happened so I finished last in the heat and somehow ran 9:14. I'm a little confused by that since everyone said 9:17 at the meet. Almost all of the official times ended up ~3 seconds faster than what I saw initially. Either way the time is not great and I don't think it is a good representation of my fitness. Getting out slower probably would have been a good idea but that didn't work in the mile 2 weeks ago either. It might have just been the day, and unfortunately I seem to be having more bad races than good races lately. Not really sure what is causing that. My back has been my weak spot but I also know that my back can tighten up from lack of fitness too. I'm sure I'm not in great shape but a 4:27 last week definitely indicates that I can run faster than 9:14.
