Notes
Well at least I got under 4:30 this time. Even though it wasn't by much. Bennett Moser was pacing a couple Wartburg guys to sub 4:20 pace so I didn't really think about going with them. The next group got out well and I felt good running behind an Iowa T&F club guy. We got through the 800 in around 2:12 and I felt much better than the last race. Honestly, I may have been a little too satisfied with getting through the first half of the race in a better time because then I got a little complacent in the second half. I decided to sit on that guy longer and was pretty sure we were slowing down but wasn't getting splits and was kind of hoping that we weren't. With a lap to go I finally went around him and finished much better than the last race. I don't have splits to prove it but I feel like it had to be better. So the second half of the race ended up being pretty slow and I didn't run much faster than the previous race even though I had a better start and felt stronger. The second half was still tough but I was thinking about making a move instead of just trying to hold on for dear life like I was in the last race. Mentally and physically I didn't quite have that move, but it was still nice to feel good enough to think about attacking. I really should have moved around the Iowa T&F club guy at the halfway point or the next lap. I think just getting moving a little faster at that point in the race would have propelled me through the last couple of laps. In the end I felt like I could have run 4:25-4:27 if I would have gone after it a little more but I can still tell my fitness isn't at the typical 4:21-4:22 right now. Hopefully I can get it together soon. Or maybe this year I can follow up a bad indoor season with a good outdoor instead of the opposite I experienced last year. Either way I think I will run Wartburg's last chance meet in a couple of weeks since it isn't too far away. The question is whether or not to mix it up and run a 3k or give the mile another try.
