Notes

Mile race at ISU. I was in the second heat with the fastest seed time of 4:23. This put me in a tough start position on the corner right next to the rail. I got out much better than last week though and somehow settled right into second place behind the leader at a solid pace. It felt fast but comfortable to start as we went through 409 in 65. I started to get anxious around 800 and considered going to the lead, but just then I heard the announcer say we were on 4:21 pace and a guy on my right went to the lead. I followed and got carried around for one more lap before taking the lead myself with 2 to go I believe. I still felt strong when I went to the front and thought I was running away from the pack, but with about 50m left a guy blew by me and I had no answer. I was told afterward that I did drop everyone but that guy made a huge charge the last lap. I saw the clock as I crossed the line and was excited to have broken 4:20 for the first time, especially considering how I have been feeling about my training. It was also cool to beat a lot of guys from the fast heat and I think I could have mixed it up in that heat pretty well. I did look up the 300m conversion to 200m though and this time is pretty equivalent to the 4:21 I ran on a 200m track senior year. This race did give me a lot of confidence though so I am probably going to run a fresh 3000 at some point now, and see if I can trim a few more seconds off this mile time.

Nice work! That is a quick mile! I am excited to see you run at alumni. I hear you might be doing a couple races?

Thanks Pollux! If my toe feels fine I think I will give multiple events a try. I'm not sure if I will be able to finish the second event but I figure it would be fun to try it out. I'll start the day off with the mile as my main race and just see what happens after that. I'm excited to see you race again too. I assume you will be running the mile?

The mile or 3k. I haven't decided yet. I was originally thinking the 3k but it might be fun to get back to the mile. I thought there might be a decent group in the 3k but it sounds like the mile might be a good race to be in.
