Notes

I didn't have much planned for the weekend so I decided to go home and run Maquoketa's 5k. I knew it would be an easy win but figured a race atmosphere would still be a good way to get in a harder effort. A bunch of young kids beat me off the line but I got to the lead within 200m and never looked back. I felt like I had pretty good turnover and just tried to get after as best I could without actually having anyone to race. The race did feature a couple of solid climbs so that kept me honest. Overall I felt really good and finished at a time that seems about right. If it was a flat course I think it would have been around 16 flat so considering the hills 16:22 makes sense. It isn't an extremely great first race but considering this has been a pretty long break for me, it was good to just stretch out the legs. Based on previous years I still feel like this gave me plenty of confidence moving forward to some cross country races.
