Notes
Man, I don't know what to think here. Most people had 5.14 on their GPS, but I had 5.24 on mine and the map shows 5.25. But looking at my map, it appears I was drunk, especially at the beginning and end of the race. So after I sobered up, I traced the map myself, accurately following the real path I ran and it came out as 5.19. Suck it sub 25!
Originally, my plan was a tempo run under 25:00. The congestion crap is now in my chest and I wheeze if I breathe out hard. Because of that, I didn't have a plan and thought I'd run it as a progression and run in the upper 25s. At least it was really foggy which I felt would help my breathing a little bit.
1st mile=Felt good. Didn't take the lead until a little over a half mile in because some kids took off. I wanted to pass them earlier but I looked at my watch and saw we were rolling, so I was patient.
2nd mile=Good mile because there was a little climbing. The thought of sub 25 entered my mind.
3rd mile=Started to breathe a little hard, but stayed controlled
4th mile=Struggled up the hill past the library and I thought sub 25 was gone because my lap pace was slow. Once I saw the mile came short, I thought I could get sub 25 again.
5th mile= Picked it up, but didn't hammer. There was a 4.5 mile marker in the road, so I switched my screen over to total time and was going to focus on that. I thought I had it in the bag but hit 4.5 miles close to 23 minutes. I tried to push a little bit more and when I hit 24:00, I knew I wouldn't finish in time.
Felt good at the finish and with some competition, I feel like I could have run this twice in a row, which is good because I've felt so drained lately. Now the focus is to get rid of this crap.
