The 3rd Annual Frankenthon Monster Marathon. Another warm one (almost 70 at the start with 90% humidity). I put in more miles recently and thought I could run in the 3:15 range. With the heat, I adjusted my goal down to 3:30ish knowing I tend to suffer in those conditions and did not look at my watch the entire time. It wasn't enough. First hard cramp (left hamstring) came at mile 18 and it was a battle all the way home. Ended up with a 3:45 - my slowest time at Frakenthon (3:18, 3:41 previous). Even with the crash and burn I was able to pick up 2nd place AG. Going to miss the 35-39 age group (I age up next Feb). This cramping issue is getting old. I've tried all kinds of things. Just not consistent - I've powered through warm marathons in the past and cramped up in perfect conditions. Got to keep trying.
It is a great small marathon though - lots of chances to see people, plenty of aid stations, beer, pizza, and donuts at the finish.
