Notes

Mike and I rode together to the Howl at the Moon 5K. While waiting for the race to begin, we both agreed at how nice the temperature felt. It was, afterall, dusk, with a slight breeze, and no sun beating down overhead. It was only after I started running that I realized that it was still over 80 degrees. The race course was 1.5ish miles downhill to the courthouse with a return all uphill to the park. I had no time goal for this race. I merely wanted to run the whole thing without taking a walk break. I did not accomplish that goal. I ended up walking for about 10 seconds about 400 yards from the finish line. As I entered the park, I walked from that turn-in until the first, parked police car, which sat about 25 feet away. My time was relatively good, all things considered--heat, humidity, night conditions, having run lots of mile already in the week, etc., but I am very disappointed with myself for giving into the walk break there at the end. I should have just slowed my pace to a crawl but kept running. In any event, there is no way I could have shaved 19 seconds off my finish time to have come in under 30 minutes, so at least I don't have to beat myself up for that part of it.
