Maine Coast Marathon
Rainy day, but really perfect weather. Had hoped to break 3:30 barrier but the hills of the second half started to nail me around mile 20. Can't complain about the 3:31:17... it was my second fastest. Held it pretty well together, but the hills were relentless! Bettered my Boston Marathon finish (3:38:05) by about 7 minutes which will just help next year's placement. This December the old boy turns 60 and the only good thing is I get an additional 15 minutes or a 3:55 BQ time. No problem with that. Started out a bit faster than perhaps I should have but with this course I think the banked minutes helped. The long hills wear on ya! Jane was a great cheerleader... I really picked me up whenever I saw her cheering me on. Ricky ran an awesome race for being 66 at 3:42. McCullough rocked and didn't get chicked. I think his Maori Haka move before the race while waiting for the portapotty is his secret! I won't repeat what I told him it looked like! Eric, Doug and Michael were also cruising and all were well under 3:30. Michelle... well this one I beat her... didn't think I'd do that again! My neighbor Debbie did her first marathon and broke 4:00...was psyched for her. Dick :'Heureux is still a legend! Vangie and Eric hosted a nice party afterwards at Tom and Vangie's house. THANKS!
Kept cadence fairly consistent around 88 though faded to 86 spm at end. What's with the Heart Rate. Started redlining that at the end! Hey it's done. In two weeks I have a 50K ultra then in two more weeks the Pirate tri, then a week later Mount Washington! Not sure if I will aim for a fall marathon. This is 8 marathons completed!
