Notes

Well this was a unique experience. Run Bike Run. First leg was 3.4 miles and I took it fairly easy at about 7:17 pace. Then you have to transition to bike. I was pretty slow here getting on bike shoes and helmet. The top guys do this in 25 seconds! Then the bike. Beautiful course by the president's house in Kennebunkport and along the ocean. Only my second bike ride this year and I had not done anything near 18.9 miles. Seemed to average around 18 mph, but the guys on the trip bikes smoked me! Then transition 2. I had all I could do not to fall getting off the bike. Your legs turn into two pieces of rubber with no coordination. What a weird feeling. Stumbled to get running shoes back on and then tried to run... Who stole my legs! This was a 3.1 mile packed rail trail out and back run on a gorgeous section along the Mousum River where it joins the ocean. Included a 20 foot deep mud section! There was pain here, but still managed to pass about a dozen of the fast biker guys and gals. Managed to land a 2nd AG and happy about that. So much of this is about the bike. In running you might have 1 or 2 minute lead on the others in you AG, but in bike they can nail you with 4-8 minutes! The logistics of the transitions is also critical and will require practice if I do this again. Also have to train to get the leg muscles to reactivate after biking. This was my toughest part today. Fun experience and I experience the other CN'ers to change it up and try one of these.

Fro

Great job Dave to turn this round in only two weeks from Boston! Congrats. I have a hard enough time running, much less adding another variable. Nice way to kick off the race season!
