Notes

It was an insane race. It was chilly, rainy, and windy. That sort of temperature that makes you want to lay down in your bed and not get up. It was a certain temperature that reminded me of that one race at Waubonsie where I recklessly ran the 2-mile. On that day, lessons were learned, and the time had come to put those lessons to good use.

There were about 19 guys racing the mile and I knew that most of them would run the first lap way too fast, which led me to start off in the middle of the pack. Naturally, I got boxed in, but I didn't freak out because I knew that the pack would eventually open up and my chance would come. During the back curve, the pack started to split up so I seized the opportunity and opened up to the outside of lane 1, where I eventually passed 5 people coming off the back curve. The second lap was pretty uneventful; I was in fifth place and stayed behind my teammate from the college level. During the third lap, I passed him on the back curve and started to close the gap between two runners that were ahead of me. I passed them on the back straight of the last lap, and after I passed them I realized that I had one more guy left to pass to win the whole thing. I noticed he was slowing down, so I started to accelerate in order to catch up to him. I eventually passed him coming off the final curve.

I felt pretty good this race. It felt good to run a distance that I'm used to running.
