Notes

Felt extremely tired throughout school day, and for some reason I was nervous as I toed the line. My throat was dry as a desert, barely being able to gather enough saliva to ease my throat. Once the race began, I focused on getting out there, not getting boxed in and left behind. By the 1/4 mile I was in the top 5, and didn't make my move until we hit the mile mark. By this point my throat was killing me. Filled with fatigue from Saturday, I wasn't sure if I'd win or not. The second mile was a fight against myself, against to urge to give up, against the voice that whispered "Second is not that bad,"but when Jake Allen from Naperville North and I hit the final straight I screamed at myself "Second place isn't enough!" By the time I started my kick Jake had already gained a 3 meter lead on me, but I managed to close it, and pass him in the last meter. Racing Jake brings back memories of 7th grade track, that year's conference it had come to a kicker's race at the end of the mile, and I had managed to beat him by milliseconds there too. I don't plan on loosing.
