Notes

Start was delayed by 15 minutes, quite annoying as for the first 8k felt like I had to pee again. Tried taking manual splits every KM but the km markers were definitely off and some were missing. Went through halfway in 44:59 (45:03 gun time) but the halfway mark was placed closer to 11km than 10.55km. Deceided to really pick it up around 14km in hopes of breaking 1:30 and didn't realize how far off the pace I had fallen. Needed to run about 4:10 pace for last 5km to make goal including kicking the last 200m around 3:30 pace watching the seconds tick away. Even though course was a net downhill there were 2 significant uphill sections plus plenty of rollers. No wind to speak of except a welcome cool breeze and plenty of shade so the unusually high temperature + sun were not much of a factor. Took GUs at 10km and 16km plus picked up water when I could. Early downhill Kms thrashed quads but overall muscles held up quite well. PF manageable, biggest problem was top of left foot due to tying shoe too tight resulting in stabbing pain throughout the downhill portions of the latter race. Amazing crowd support throughout especially along Cambie St, Chinatown and lining Pender at the finish.
