Queen's Quay

Notes

Another crazy windy day, Garmin registered 48 km/h, gusts were forecasted at 70 km/h from the west. Plan was to do 5x1K with 2 minute rest at around 10K pace with 3 reps with a tailwind. Figured I could take it easy on these 3 reps and then go nuts on the 2 reps into the wind.

I measured a route along Queen's Quay that was 1.03K and just used the lap button. Lower legs were sore this morning from yesterday and I could feel my inner left ankle hurting from the start. It never really seemed to get better but it didn't get worse either. The first rep was pretty relaxed, the second not as bad as what I had feared as I guess it wasn't a direct headwind the whole 1K but the gusts were brutal. I tried to accelerate whenever there was a slight reprieve. The third rep was again pretty relaxed, not too far from tempo effort but I could feel my legs tiring plus all the clothes I was wearing wasn't conducive to running fast. On the 4th rep I gave it everything and the wind was worse on this one than the 2nd rep as there were a few 50m stretches where I felt like I was barely moving. Ended up accelerating my breathing and really pushing it for the last 500m. Despite this I seemed to recover ok for the last rep and again pushed it but probably not as hard as I did the 4th rep.

Overall the workout was tougher than I would have liked it to be but the times weren't so bad considering the ridiculous conditions. Need to make sure my ankle doesn't worsen.

Rep 1 3:53.6 233.6/1030 3:46.8

Rep 2 4:05.2 245.2/1030 3:58.1

Rep 3 3:55.3 235.3/1030 3:48.4

Rep 4 4:08.4 248.4/1030 4:01.2

Rep 5 3:54.7 234.7/1030 3:47.9

Average pace of 3:53.6 for first 4 reps

Average pace of 3:52.5 for all 5 reps
