Good Times

Notes

I have never felt so lucky to be able to run. Certain moments turned themselves into vivid memories: odd things like a rusty bolt in a bridge and a small gust of wind. I wasn't thinking about racing at the start, just about how good it felt to be running for the first time since the attack yesterday. At 2 miles I saw that my time was 11:50 so by instinct I surged for the last mile, igniting the familiar burning in the back of my throat and my lungs.

For 17:59 the world was simple again. Although I was close to race pace I was never on the look out for the finish line; I never wanted this race to end. Of course the race ended and the world was the same as it had been before the race, but I will run again. Whoever attacked the finish line yesterday cannot win. We will never stop running.
