My 3rd marathon complete, and a PR! I've taken some time to reflect on this one and I'm obviously thrilled I was able to pull this off. It was a terrific course, great community support, and an awesome opportunity to run with D for 18+ miles - don't think I could have done it on my own. Temps were cold to start and I felt stiff for a little longer than usual, but by mile 4-5 I warmed up fine. The only annoyance was my HR monitor, which kept slipping and I don't think was accurate after a while. This time, the real misery held off until about mile 24, when the quads started really burning and I felt like molasses, but I'm so happy I was able to maintain 8:30 and below - certainly didn't feel like it! I feel very blessed that I had a great running year at age 40, with a Ragnar and now a marathon PR. Now I will scale back the miles over the winter, work on some cross-training and strength training as well, and try not to get too fat.
