Notes
Third of three start attempts at RUTS. Cool temps (for June) marked this race, but still humid. First five hours went pretty well, had built up an 8:00 cushion but that fell away as time went on. I think I lost it about the same time the kidney dysfunction started. At Mile 17 (20), my right kidney -- I guess -- stopped working. It felt like it was going to explode. I couldn't get enough to drink. I drank at the aid station every 1/2 mile, two or three cups. Water, Powerade. As soon as I'd start running, my mouth and throat would be parched again. And when I changed socks and shoes at Mile 28, my right foot swelled to the point I couldn't get fresh socks back on, Restarted Garmin with a new run with change of shoes.
