Notes
My 60th marathon/ultra did not go at all as planned. No BQ, no PR, missed course PR by 5 seconds and a sub-3:50 by 20 seconds. On the plus side, it was my 4th fastest marathon and I ran more than half of the race in a wintry mix of rain, sleet, snow and freezing rain. I also placed 3rd in my AG. And as always, OMRR puts on an excellent race. Even in unfavorable weather conditions, course and aid station support was top-notch. I love this race, even when it refuses to give me what I want.
Matt's race report: "The day brought us a 34 degree start with dropping temperatures accompanied by snow, sleet, rain and ice over the duration of today's incredible adventure. The plan....get my friend Houston his BQ. As I hid out in the car until absolutely necessary I replayed the game plan in my head. 8 magnificent loops of running joy. Loop one came off without a hitch except we couldn't see for the ice trying to pelt out our eyes. Loop 2 still good. Sleet turned to mix of precipitation. Loop 3 was time to make the call. Hold the attempt or wave off and cruise it in. After one mile into loop 4 we had to wave off. Today was just not the day. Training, diet, discipline and dedication cannot contend when mother nature has other ideas."
