9.3 mile run at Waterfall. Once again, fell short of an intended long run. I am coming off 3 harder workouts this week, first time I did that this summer, so I understand why my legs felt so dead. I also had a lot of aching pain in the hips, glutes, etc. So maybe I'm not quite ready for 3 speed workouts/week, or at least I need to make sure that I have 48 hours of recovery heading into my long run. Last summer I seemed to manage 2-3 workouts per week pretty regularly, although I think the workouts I have been doing so far this summer have been pretty tough in comparison to last. For example, tempo runs are now in the 30-40 min range, whereas last summer I never went over 25 min. Fartleks I'm pushing between 5-5:15 avg pace, and I wasn't nearly as close to that level of intensity last summer. But now I'm hitting that point where speed workouts are hampering my weekly mileage, and I need to prioritize getting the miles in before speed. For the next few weeks, I will probably stay at 2 workouts/week, and anytime I plan to do 3, I need to make sure I am getting enough rest before the long run.
