9.25 mile run at Waterfall. Not a good run. Started off okay, but quickly after 5 miles, I felt very weak. This is two weeks now in a row now that I just couldn't continue past 9 miles on my long run. Maybe I could have pushed it a few more miles, but honestly pace would have been reaching 8:00/mile. Recently the problem has been that I just feel extremely weak and sore on every run. I have lots of pain in my hips, quads, glutes, and really everything else below the waist. It's not sharp pain, but it's just a terrible aching pain that makes me feel like I've already been running 10+ miles at the start of every run. One reason why I might be having this pain all the time is because I am not weightlifting. This is the first time since freshman year of high school that I have gone more than 3-4 months without touching a single weight. And I'll be honest, although the XC strength workouts slightly help keep us in shape, having no weights to work with is a serious setback, at least for someone like me who has more of a build coming from sports like wrestling. I think that I am just not strong enough right now to handle the same level of mileage as easy as I did during season. Honestly my entire lower body was destroyed after this run today, and it really wasn't all that hard of a run (nor was the past couple days). So I think the most important thing to do from here is trying to find an open gym, or trying to find some type of weights around the house so that I can get stronger. I don't want to blame this all on not lifting, but I seriously think that this is a major barrier in my ability to surpass a 70 mile week, because I can tell that my body cannot recover quick enough. Another thing I will need to focus on is more stretching and use of resistance bands for hips.
