Notes

Hillsborough Hop Race with Sofie and Chris. This was a ton of fun. The weather was rainy and cold but really could not have been better for racing. I was planning on an 8:30 Pace realistically so the start was really unusual as i was completely relaxed and no butterflys at all. Chris and Sofie blasted out at the start so they were out of my sight right away which was probably best for my race. I just focused on running a comfortable but fast pace and i was surprised when I looked at my watch after the first mile, 7:14 was really fast. However, i just looked at it as though i banked some pace for later in the race. i was still going to be very happy with an 8:30 Avg. Mile - I think keeping this mentality actually was the best part of my race. At mile 2 I saw Sachin and Liz cheering from the house which was awesome and very uplifting again a 7:29 mile. At this point i was definitely hurting but my legs felt great. No sign of my calf tightening up and my cardio was the only thing that was limiting me. During the final mile i had lots of thoughts about backing off the pace and just cruising in. Thankfully, that didn't happen I was able to run with 2 other runners almost to the finish where they kicked and lost me. Although I didn't have any kick at all I did not get passed by anyone which was my goal at the end to just hang on. Extremely happy with this result and I'll get back to my schedule next week.

Just checked D's log and learned you and Sofie broke the father-daughter record - that is so cool! Well done! Tell your young gazelle she's an inspiration to all of us.

I gotta admit, this result really surprised me. You are in much better shape than I realized. And the fact you were able to do this with no real leg issues is really encouraging. This makes me think you really have a shot of building up miles and doing Ragnar with us. But I would say more than ever, I would want you to build up conservatively. I think it's possible we need to adjust the plan a bit. Let's see how you do then next couple weeks. But again, this was an awesome job Pete!
