Notes

Great long run this morning on an absolutely perfect long run locale. The trail is flat, gravel, and has markers every quarter mile for the first 3.25. It was interesting to compare my GPS to the given distances (my GPS is a little generous, as I suspected, perhaps about 1.5% long.) The weather was beautiful to start at about 55 and cloudy. I went out slowly, 7:48 at the mile after over 4:00 at the half mile. I was feeling okay, still getting warmed up. Then I got a little excited and subconsciously pushed it, starting to feel like shit. I tried to dial it back but still wasn't feeling good, went 7:13 and then 7:31. Turned around after going under a tunnel when my watch said 4.55 miles and 33:33. Not sure if the tunnel gave me extra distance or not, because my watch said my fifth mile was 6:43, though I was definitely going faster and starting to roll. I thought I'd just do about 7 min pace to finish the rest, and went 7:02 for the next one. But then it started to rain (you know what that means) and I found myself flying and feeling great. 6:24, 6:08.. starting to breath hard and work a little bit, so I thought I'd dial it back just a little to finish. Lol, 5:56, then 5:29 pace for the last .15. Boom. Savage. Destroyed this thing. Sub-19 for the last 5k. Didn't need to hammer the last 400 but yolo. I was just having too much fun. 33:33 out and 29:09 back (6:21 pace if the watch was accurate.) These runs build tremendous strength. Longest run in 2.5 years yet again, and highest mileage week for the same period. Shin felt totally fine too. Great day.
